I hesitate to even make this comment, but I have heard references from more than one person in "non-reformed" circles that Obama may be the anti-christ. Is there a possibility that a McCain staffer came up with this ad to play to that outrageous speculation/fear?

Who knows? In the realm of politics, I put nothing past anyone, even preying on the worst rumors and basest instincts of voters.

That said, if there is a strategy behind this and not just dumb luck, it would seem to me that the strategy is to combat the messianic aura that Obama and the media have by ridiculing it. I mean, really, how else do you fight that?

Regardless of the whys, it seems to me that it's been very, very effective, if for no other reason than it irritated Obama and his campaign and forced them off message, requiring them to defend the indefensible.
