With the latest update to the Governor’s “Safer at Home” order churches may have gatherings of any size while maintaining social distancing protocols to include six feet of distance between persons from different households. The Alabama Public Health Department issued “Guidelines for Places of Worship” which we are using to help provide a safe environment for “on site” corporate worship. Please consider the following plan to be an expression of love for one another and a small inconvenience in comparison to the blessings we have in Christ.
Beginning on Sunday, May 17, Riverwood Presbyterian Church will offer "on site" morning worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The early service is especially for individuals and families who have had limited exposure to others due to being in the at-risk population. We encourage those who are at high risk to the Coronavirus due to preexisting conditions or age to participate at home using the livestream. The state Health Department guidelines strongly encourage those 65 and older to participate remotely. Also, if you or someone in your household has been sick, please stay home so you can recover while helping keep others safe.
When entering the building on Sunday morning, you will find that entrances will be open to allow congregants to get to their seats without having to touch any handles or surfaces. In order to maintain social distancing, every other row in the sanctuary will be roped off and congregants are asked to allow for at least two seats of separation (though family members may sit together). State officials have also strongly encouraged the use of face coverings. If you do not have one, disposable masks will be available to you as you enter the sanctuary and we encourage you to wear one for the benefit of others in attendance. Congregants are asked to print out their own bulletin from the church’s website, or download the bulletin to a device. There will be a small number of bulletins available in the narthex. Communion will be offered but there will be modifications to the method of distribution to help ensure safety. The nursery will not be available during the services. We welcome children into the worship service and understand the joyful noises that come with their presence.
Following the early service, please exit the sanctuary immediately to allow volunteers to sanitize surfaces, alternate rows used, and prepare for the next service.
We are grateful for the opportunity to begin offering corporate, in person worship once again. Thank you for serving one another and helping us by following these protocols. If you plan to attend either “on site” service, please RSVP and let us know how many in your household will be attending so we can best prepare for the service.
At this point we are not having Sunday School and other activities are being considered individually.
